The Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders contest also had an underlying theme of Shreyas Iyer going up against his former team Kolkata Knight Riders. Shreyas Iyer, just last year, had led KKR to the IPL title and was released by the franchise prior to the IPL 2025 auction where Punjab Kings signed him for Rs 26.75 crore.
