Madhya Pradesh: Children File Case Against Parents for Limiting Usage of Mobile Phones and TV, High Court Stays Trial

The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed proceedings in a case where siblings, now aged 24 and 11, accused their parents of not allowing them to watch TV and use mobile phones, and of physical abuse. The siblings had filed a complaint in October 2021, leading to an FIR under the Juvenile Justice Act and IPC sections that could result in a three-year prison term for the parents. On July 25, Justice Vivek Rusia heard the parents' plea. The hearing was interrupted when the respondent's counsel disclosed, 15 minutes in, that he had not filed the 'vakalatnama' for the children's paternal aunt. Justice Rusia imposed a INR 1,000 cost and stayed the trial court proceedings. The siblings, who filed their complaint from their paternal aunt's home, accused their parents of physical assault and confinement.
