International Day of CharityĀ is celebratedĀ every year on September 5.Ā The United National General Assembly declared this day to raise awareness andĀ provide a common platform for charity-related activities all over the world. Your charitable work need not be in the form of money, it could also include volunteering at any of the NGOs on a local, national, regional or international level.
The day was declared and recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. September 5 was chosen to commemorate the death anniversary of Mother Teresa who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace."
